Special Idea A
O.C. (officer commanding) A. Force (3 Sqns) will try to envelop the rearguard of B. Force by making turning movements on both flanks. Unless reinforcements reach B Force this should be feasible. The Infantry of his A force will follow him up so he can make use of his entire force to attack.

O.C. B. Squad + 1 troop will delay the enemy as long as possible to allow the convoy to get beyond range of guns from Clatto hill position before he leaves it. If urgently required a battery will be sent to reinforce him.

A hostile force B is landing at Leven on evening of 28th + has pushed on one squadron in the direction of Ladybank with instructions to hold the heights to the north of Leven + delay advance of opposing force A until reinforcements can be landed from the transports. A defending force A is on the march from Perth with orders to attack the force B before all the troops can be disembarked. If A has halted on the night of the 28th at Collessie and has received information that the enemy's scouts have been seen in Ladybank. B. Force will be distinguished by wearing field service caps.

A Force Special Idea
The O.C. F&FIY will reconnoitre towards the S&E of Ladybank. He will endeavour (without waiting for reinforcements) to seize the Clatto heights overlooking Leven. He will be supported by the infantry of the column.
B Force Special Idea July 29th 1902
O.C. B squadron will reconnoitre as far as Ladybank & should he obtain information of the enemy advancing to stop the landing. He will take up a position on the high ground S.E of Ladybank & delay the enemy's advance. Reinforcements will reach him at Clatto Hill by 12 noon.

The position of the latter place has been reduced + he need anticipate little resistance if he can dislodge enemy from his outpost position.

O.C. A Sqn strengthened by 1 troop B Sqn +1 troop C. Sqn will hold a position south of the Burryioce? Lime Works to guard the Commissariat Stores at Springfield. He will patrol in the direction of Kennoway to gain early information of any movements of the enemy from that place.

The force A has halted on the night of the 1st August at Collessie + has received information that the enemy's scouts have been seen near Annfield & Priestfield.

The F& FIY (3 sqns) will reconnoitre towards the south & east of Ladybank. The O.C. will endeavour to gain possession of the Clatto heights over looking Leven, without waiting for reinforcements. He will be supported by the Infantry of the column should his attack fail.

O.C. B Sqn F&FIY + 1 troop will reconnoitre as far as Ladybank + obtain information of any force sent to defeat the landing at Leven. He will take up a position on the high ground SE of Ladybank to delay a force A reported to be marching from Perth. Reinforcements of Infantry & guns will reach him on Clatto Hill by 11.30 am
